Boston in the Winter
Dear Artists and Artisans,
At Craftproducers, we have always explored innovative marketing options. After considerable research, we are pleased to present a most affordable opportunity with minimum risk and maximum upside.
How would you like a chance to showcase and sell your work indoors in Boston in February to 20,000 attendees whose family income exceeds $100,000. Seems like a stupid question, doesn’t it?
We are offering you a 10x10 booth with pipe and drape and electricity for the ridiculous price of $275. The show is the New England Home Show. The location is the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston, MA. The dates are February 25-28, Thursday through Sunday. It is a non-union hall and you can set up your own booth. For less than $70 a day, twenty thousand people will walk by your booth. The promoter of the show wants to introduce a Craft Pavilion and has allotted a prime front aisle exclusively for us. In addition to the Craft Pavilion, several Boston restaurants will present chef demos in another part of the hall. These activities are to widen the interest of the event and increase the audience.
Acceptance will be on a first come, first serve basis. You can email (info@craftproducers.com) or call our office (802.425.3399) to apply. We will need a $100 deposit along with your application. You can send a check or call with your credit card number. To fill an aisle we will need 50-60 exhibitors.
Since we must confirm with the show promoter, the deadline for space is December 15, 2009. Feel free to call for more information.

Syracuse Holiday Crafts Spectacular
THE 28TH ANNUAL SYRACUSE HOLIDAY CRAFTS SPECTACULAR
DECEMBER 4, 5, & 6
HORTICULTURE BUILDING
NEW YORK STATE FAIRGROUNDS
SYRACUSE, NY
While the recession has curtailed recreational shopping, there has been a resurgent interest in buying local. Most of the attention has been targeted to farmer’s markets and Localvore foods. However, craft shows like the Syracuse Holiday Crafts Spectacular are attracting throngs of buyers who are intent on supporting locally made handcrafted goods. The show, featuring 125 artists and artisans, runs December 4th through the 6th at the New York State Fairgrounds inside the Horticulture Building.
Craftproducers, with 35 years experience in producing juried art and craft festivals, is the new promoting agency of the Spectacular. Now in their second year, they are focusing on upgrading the quality of the exhibitors and diversifying the works displayed. Tim Cianciola, President of Craftproducers, says “Customers, especially those who come to craft shows, expect quality. When they go to a show and see tacky buy/sell tchotchkes and imported goods, they feel violated. The reason people come to a craft show is to meet the artist, to get to know the maker of the products, and to buy directly from that individual.” He explains that the show cannot be transformed overnight. “We have taken huge strides in jurying the exhibitors to insure bona fide studio artists. Last year our attendees were thrilled with the positive changes we made.”
In 2009 125 exhibitors will display and sell a wide range of their own handcrafted objects: original paintings, furniture, leather bags, graphic art, exotic dark chocolate, pottery, jewelry, specialty food products, soaps, photography, and more: many customers come specifically to find creative gifts. A new feature this year will be a sampling of New York State Wines which will be available to taste and purchase by the bottle or the case.
In addition to the customized gift buying, the Habitat for Humanity Youth United Division is staging its “Ginger Bread Houses for Habitat Homes Contest.” Contestants will bring their houses to the show and the houses will be auctioned off via a silent auction during the entire event. For information concerning the contest and how to participate, visit www.syracusehabitat.org/youthunited.
The Syracuse Holiday Crafts Spectacular will be open Friday, December 4th, from 12 to 8pm, Saturday from 10am to 5pm, and Sunday from 10am to 4pm. Adult admission is $3, kids and parking are free. Rain or shine inside a heated building. Parking is free. Not pets allowed.

Cheese and Beer Pairing Seminar at Hildene and Stowe
The Vermont Cheese Council (VCC) has entered its second decade and now represents more than 40 cheesemakers throughout Vermont who are dedicated to the production and promotion of premier cheese. Our mission includes hosting educational events for the public, acting as a resource to cheesemakers, facilitating partnerships between consumers and producers and providing technical assistance to both novice and advanced cheesemakers.
Calley Hastings, the Vermont Cheese Council coordinator and cheesemaker at Fat Toad Farm and Ruth Miller, Vermont’s “Beer and Cheese Maven” will host a Vermont beer and cheese pairing at the Hildene Fall and Stowe Foliage Arts Festivals. They will highlight 5 incredible cheese companies from around the state including Crowley Cheese, Cabot Creamery, Fat Toad Farm, Vermont Butter and Cheese Company, Dancing Cow and The Cellars at Jasper Hill. They will pair a variety of cheeses with beer from Rock Art, Otter Creek, and Wolaver’s including one cider pairing from Woodchuck Cider. Come and learn more about the stories behind the cheeses and why they pair so well with these local brews.
